What Is GS And Why Is It Important?

genuine student

Previously known as Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE), GS stands for Genuine Student and is a requirement that assesses whether an applicant genuinely intends to study in Australia. It also determines if the applicant is seeking a visa solely to gain Permanent Residency or to work.

The Australian Department of Home Affairs assesses applications based on the applicant’s answers to the four questions, each in 150 words.

They consider factors such as your personal circumstances, immigration history, and compliance to determine if you are a genuine student.

Every student should write a genuine student statement addressing the GS requirement.

Providing evidence for the information you give in your Genuine Student statement will be weighted heavily in your GS statement.

So, what evidence and information should you include in your GS statement?

Previous Study

You need to show your academic transcripts, which should include the qualifications achieved, the name of the education provider, and the completion certificates.

Explain Any Gaps In The Previous Study

If you had a gap in your previous education, explain why you didn’t maintain your enrollment. In some cases, the applicant is working, taking the IELTS, or completing internships. You should ensure you provide full details explaining the circumstances and include all supporting documents.

Employment

Provide the evidence of your employment history: the name of the employer and the position held. Attach your employment letter issued by the employer, pay slip, and bank statements showing the salary payment received from your employer.

Ties To Home Country Or Country Of Residence

Demonstrate your ongoing commitment to return to your home country. You need to show you have significant incentives to return home. Evidence of financial, family or social ties.

Economic Situation In Home Country

Mention potential employment offers, including salary and other benefits after course completion, describe your family composition, list the number of dependents, family income, and employment details, as well as assets and liabilities (including mortgages).

Study

Reason for choosing Australia and the University, instead of other countries offering the course. Cost comparison, university ratings, quality of education, etc.

Explain how the course is related to your previous qualifications or employment.

Additionally, describe how the course will benefit your future career and the employment opportunities available after completing your studies, such as potential employment and a possible salary increase with your intended qualification.

Your Immigration History

Present your case precisely and honestly. In your GS statement, reflect what’s true to you and avoid unsupported reasoning. Don’t hide anything; if you have a prior visa refusal from Australia or another country, it’s essential to be upfront about it.

Financial Document

You have to show that you have a sufficient amount to support yourself for 1 year in Australia. In Bhutan, the 1-year amount comes to Nu. 3,500,000. In most cases, applicants avail education loan from the banks. Applicants can show their own funds, but they must also demonstrate their incomes and savings accordingly. It cannot be a bulk deposit.
